About me and my journey
My name is Meredith Kenny and I have been playing baseball since I was five years old. When I was nine I discovered Baseball For All, an organization that brings girls from all across the nation together to play the sport we love. Ever since I started playing, I've fallen in love with the sport of baseball. what really opened my eyes about the opportunities that I have available to me in baseball was seeing how many other girls are just like me. Even though there is so much support through Baseball For All, many girls including me still face diversity playing a male dominated sport. Stories about young girls quitting due to people thinking they shouldn't be there is very prominent in todays world. I have to deal with that playing at home as well. I am a freshman in high school and am now attending high school workouts with the baseball coaches and other students who want to try out. The first time I was very nervous but I have gotten used to it now. One thing girl baseball players just have to accept is that many people won't agree with you being there. From my experience, I have dealt with parents and players disagreeing with me playing baseball, but I have always ignored that and kept playing. My goals in baseball is to not only help other girls feel good about playing but to also play for the USA Women's National Baseball Team. I strive to be an advocate for young girls wanting to play baseball. I am also a Junior Captain for Baseball for All, so whenever I see a girl playing baseball I make sure to let them know that they can play baseball with other girls like them. I have played on travel teams, all-star teams, and my middle school baseball team and have always held my own. I am a proud member of the junior captain team for Baseball for All and will continue to advocate for other girls to play the sport they love with confidence.
